The name of the organization is Women Health Africa (WHA). It was founded in 2007 and registered in 2012 by James Kiboma Nyatogo with an aim of doing outreach in Ruai and Kangemi slums to reach women with children who are drug addicts and suffered from domestic violence. The project is located in Ruai slum which is in Nairobi along Kangundo road and Kariobangi Slum. It is approximately over 20 km from Nairobi capital city of Kenya.
Main Goal:
Our aim is to reduce suffering and poverty among the women drug addicts and suffered domestic violence through development projects run by the addicts themselves.
Organization Background:
WHA is a non-governmental organization that seeks to strengthen the capacity of under privileged drug addicts and suffered domestic violence and underserved communities in the target communities in order to improve their living conditions. The organization focus is on improved health status, enhanced incomes, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, behaviour change among the addicts and in future to offer shelter, food and clothing. It also focuses on guidance and counselling to the community.
WHA has developed into an effective grassroots organization, which will allow the women addicts to take full responsibilities for their own development. Community participation will start from needs identification through to implementation. WHA believes that sustainable development work must not only be people centred, it must also be people driven.
Management:
WHA’s Board members are experienced and have worked with people from various walks of life.
WHA has a small support team of 10 volunteers. Well wishers also come as volunteers within the organization. Donations in kind support the centre.
WHA Activities:
-
-
- Sensitizing the community in drug use and abuse
- Identification of women on drugs
- Enrol the children of the addicts and the addicts into the program
- Partnering with relevant service providers
- Guidance and Counselling
- Referral of addicts to relevant organizations and institutions
-
Sustainability:
WHA has partnered with well-wishers from the local authority, churches and volunteers to carry out sensitization on drug use and abuse. The volunteers run counselling sessions while well-wishers give donations which are used to meet the addicts’ children’s needs.
Currently WHA is raising awareness in the community to own the projects through running activities driven by the community volunteers. It integrates some children in the community schools while the others are taught at its educational centre.

Why Donate
Our appeal to fundraise for Women Health Africa will provide life-changing structures, equipment, arts and play activities and funding for vital shelter women, Orphans and Vulnerable Children and groups of women with Disability. Women Health Africa operations are based in Kenya, Nairobi slum areas and we just couldn’t do as much for vulnerable children and their families without support from remarkable people like you. The money you donate directly, raise through events or sponsorship is used to buy equipment, build structures and services that otherwise simply wouldn’t be available.
